From all the rooms available in a home, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom are the most essential and important room that a home must have. A kitchen is usually used for cooking and food preparation. In the old days, a kitchen only consists of a stove and a sink, in the modern kitchen, there are other appliances available to make our life easier such as the stove (as the center of the whole kitchen), a sink (equipped with hot and cold water if any), a refrigerator and also kitchen cabinets to hold all the tools for cooking. Other appliances such as microwave, dishwasher and others are also available since a kitchen is not only used for cooking but can also be used for dining and entertaining. That is why modern kitchen design is more sophisticated than the old days.

Determining a kitchen design is not a simple thing to do anymore, today there are even specified major that learn to optimize the work in the kitchen. There are several types of kitchen arrangements such as the single-file kitchen often called the one-way galley usually used when there is limited space available, the double-file kitchen or the two-way galley, the L-kitchen, the U-kitchen, and the block kitchen. Modern kitchen today, also have space for people to eat in the kitchen without using the formal dining room.

In choosing which kitchen design that is most optimal for your home, you will have to consider several things, such as the space available. It is most important to choose kitchen layouts that will bring the outmost of any available space. Choosing the appliances is also important, we do not want to over having appliances that we seldom use. Last but not least, we have to consider the function of a kitchen, is it only to be used as cooking place or will be double-functioned as the dining room.
